Fota Wildlife Park

Southwest Ireland | County Cork

Fota Wildlife Park is located at the eastern suburbs of Cork City on Fota Island in County Cork. Located on 75-acre (30 ha) park is home to many interesting mammal, bird and plant species represent all of the continents and ecosystems on Earth (some are under threat of extinction). Fota Wildlife Park was established as a joint project of the Zoological Society of Ireland and University College Cork and opened to the public in the summer of 1983. Since then it has become one of the most visited tourist attractions in Ireland. Many of the animals (for example kangaroos or capybaras) are allowed to roam freely on the park lands. Larger and more dangerous animals (giraffes, bison, emus, cheetahs) are fenced off. With no doubt a great attraction is to watch the feeding of animals, especially cheetahs. The Tropical House, 280 sqm indoor pavillon is a home to reptiles, amphibians, fish and 14 butterfly species flying freely between varied tropical plants. There's this constant temperature of 26° Celsius all year round. Fota Wildlife Park participates in conservation and breeding programs and is also important education centre providing courses, classes and conferences to all age groups.
